extended into tomorrow. temperatures have dropped. the wind chill is in the teens. napa is 19. it feels like it is 17. 42 in san francisco. 25 in novato and below freezing in fremont and san jose. pacifica is at 31. half moon bay is at 37. and 28 in livermore. we are looking at coldest mornings all season. through the day at the coast, numbers will be near 50 in the afternoon. around the bay, same story, upper 40's to near 50 starting out below freezing. inland you have time to recover. at 4:00, the temperature is only 48. leyla gulen, any going on? >> there was an accident westbound along 80 headed into richmond and the accident has actually cleared. we had a lane blocked but it caused the backup with red there behind it so everything is over to the shoulder but we are still looking at a delay up to the hoffman split. the maze is starting to load up and looking clogged approaching the bay bridge. as we head to drive time traffic 44 minutes from tracy to dublin and highway 4 is filling out at 26 minutes from antioch to concord and 101 is clear from san rafael to san francisco. >> we fol

now, the higher elevations of napa county hit with snow last night. the plows were on stand by. >> by 8:30, the rain washed away most of the snow at elevation 4,300 but for part of the afternoon, the flakes definitely falling, enough that k cal trans put up signs. four miles down highway 29, the evening was peppered with downpours. it was an awful trip to get just about anywhere, some locals say the wet blast is unusual. >> i can pretty much get through the entire winter without turning on the heat and went home today and turned the heat on. we are miserable. >> reporter: visitors of chicago celebrating the 15th anniversary got a taste of the city they just left. >> expecting sunny. it was supposed to be our anniversary and here we are like in weather just like chicago. >> reporter: to get out of the 39-degree cold, some folks jumped in 104-degree water at the call calastoga hot spring. >> it is good for you. >> reporter: walking back into the cold is hard part. abc 7 news. >> no kidding. >>> check out this cal trans image. 101 north is shut down due to snow and traffic related

of the rainfall totals over the last 24 hours. .47 in napa. .4 in santa rosa. almost .3 for oakland, san francisco picking up almost .4. san jose picking up .13. we have seen snowfall in areas right around the santa cruz mountains, right over the summit, mount st. helena has reported a little snow. northern areas of napa county reported some snow yesterday. a few sprinkles that may or may not be hitting the ground at this point. it's sort of fascinating when we get that snow in our local hills. i'm seeing a little here remaining. that moisture over mount diablo. the altamont pass area stretching across 580. this is just the very tail end. we're going to see this actually continue to move to the south. if you are going to tahoe this weekend, still snow with an advisory over tahoe until 10:00 a.m. for the west slope droiring up to tahoe it's until 4:00 p.m. today. we have snow levels to pollock pines and in and around areas from truckee into blue canyon. snow level still fairly low, 3500 feet-4500 feet out there this morning. the winds are picking up. 8 miles per hour in nap awrks 9 in fairfield, 6

are in the upper 20s from novato, napa and santa rosa. san francisco at 39 right now. our coast in in the mid-30s. right through 7:00 very little change. by noontime low to mid-40s. by the afternoon maybe some areas could hit around 50, but overall once again we will be at least 10 degrees below average. just in the upper 40s today. less wind and a spare-the-air day this afternoon. we will look for a moderating trend coming into play as soon as tomorrow. katie. >> warming trend sounds good to me. thank you, lisa. meanwhile in the south bay officials are working to save lives as the temperature drops low enough to create life-threatening conditions. at least four deaths have occurred this week. but to get people off the streets and into shelters is making a difference. we report from a san jose shelter protecting more than 200 cold snap refugees. >> in addition to all of the beds, they had to bring in mats to handle the people that will need a place out of the coal. -- out of the cold. about 225 are expected at had shelter in san jose. >> i have people out there who are freezing and i worry about

and napa. upper 20s novato. by this time tomorrow we could see the numbers drop into the mid-30s. yesterday we had much milder temperatures in the 40s. milder, that's relative, right? so we are much, much cooler. it's going to take probably until the middle of the week or the end of the week before we get out of those freezing morning low temperatures. i'll show you that in a moment. as we get going through the afternoon, plenty of sunshine. another chilly day today. a few 50s, mainly in the 40s. and a warming trend by monday. you will notice a difference out there. we are looking at the air quality with very little mixing in the north bay. hazy out there. elsewhere a. >> better but no woodburning throughout the by today. our satellite and radar composite, much of the nation gripped in a huge cold spell and the west coast in particular with high pressure building in. that cool, northerly flow continues to pump that cool air from canada down into the bay area. so the morning lows, 20s and 30s this morning along the coast and around the bay. then by tomorrow look at that, even chillier. tuesd

and the mittens and ear muffs. there is a wind chill in places like san francisco and napa but it is keeping the temperature up. live doppler 7 hd shows the clouds that normally blanket us to keep us from being so cold are over the ocean and that is where they will stay today for the better part of tomorrow. in the north, that is where the coldest temperatures are and that is where our freeze warning continues. 24 in petaluma, and gushville and santa rosa at 29 and 30 at novato and everyone else is above freezing, mill tale at 34 and american canyon is 36 and san rafael at 39. napa with the north breeze at 41 san ramon, it was 30 just an hour ago. 36 in san jose and cupertino is 34. alameda is 42. 34 in newark. east bay hills are clear and calm and crisp. we will see plenty of sunshine today and tomorrow but it will be below average. the coldest low is tonight and rain and snow in the bay area possible on friday into saturday our temperatures, today, with the sunshine mostly around 50 to 52 degrees and the exception is oakland and half moon bay and morgan hill and live more and antioch, and

around napa. below average temperatures today. we will look for the freeze warning again tonight except for san francisco. so the current satellite picture shows this trough persistent jet stream well to the south of us, all the way down into baja, california. then the system off jr. will reinforce the cold air, bring dryer air, the clear sky and another frigid night tonight. here's a look at half dome. look at the snow. isn't this beautiful? a couple overnight lows in the next few days. 30s around the bay. inland low 30s. monday into tuesday, perhaps another freeze warning. then it looks like we are out of the woods by wednesday. but in terms of high temperatures today, southern california making it up to about 60. 48 in sacramento. 29 in tahoe. minus 13 this morning. afternoon highs 50 oakland, 48 fairfield as well as morgue again hill and headed to candlestick. northeast wind. not as windy as it could be there. the spare the air today. the freeze warning tonight. likely monday night. then we are sunny, milder midweek and near 60 with very little chance of rain on friday and saturday
